2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

2018 is a big year for the Jeep Wrangler, since this adventurous mid-size SUV went through a complete redesign, kicking off a whole new generation of Wrangler. We're excited to show you the upgrades and innovations that the Wrangler Unlimited now has. But before that, you're probably wondering, what makes this SUV an Unlimited?

2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited on the Road

Unlimited refers to the larger version of the Jeep Wrangler. Since 2004, Jeep has offered a Wrangler with a longer wheelbase (the distance between the front and back tires). The Wrangler Unlimited boasts four full-size doors as opposed to the smaller two-door model. Today's 2018 Wrangler Unlimited is sometimes called the JL Unlimited to differentiate this Wrangler from its JK predecessor. The JL Wrangler is the biggest yet, being longer, wider, and taller than previous years' models.

Roomier Seating for a New Generation

After its complete redesign, quite a bit is new or updated in the Wrangler Unlimited. Being bigger than ever before, you'll feel a difference in comfort. The Wrangler is roomier, with extra interior space. Backseat legroom markedly improved, though sitting shotgun is still the best. Of course, the Wrangler Unlimited gives you the most seats (five) and roomiest seating. Seats are plenty comfortable and the interior has an upscale look with new switch panels, custom buttons and knobs, and attractive dash and seat materials that feel good to the touch.

Engine Upgrades

You're also looking at new engines. The base engine is a 285-horsepower 3.6-liter, good for 260 pound-feet of torque and paired to a six-speed manual transmission. If you prefer, you can upgrade the transmission to an eight-speed automatic. Engines can also be swapped out. There's a 270-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with the mild hybrid eTorque system. If you're okay going with the newest model, the 2019 Wrangler offers a 3.0-liter diesel engine. The quickest acceleration a Wrangler does now is zero to 60 miles per hour in 6.9 seconds, which is outstanding for an off-roading vehicle this size.

Off-Roading Perfection

Most manufacturers don't even try to make their SUVs off-road worthy. Meanwhile Jeep has made off-roading an art form. Every Wrangler Unlimited can do some light to moderate off-roading. But the Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon has been tapped as the off-roading king. This trim level offers 17-inch alloy wheels, special off-road tires, heavy-duty front and rear axles, shorter axle gearing, low-range gearing, electronic front and rear locking differentials, electronically-disconnecting front roll bar, rock rails, and, top it off, an additional USB port.

If that list went over your head, just be assured that the Rubicon can off-road like nobody's business. Most, or all, of those same features can be purchased as packages at lower trim levels as well.

If you're looking for off-roading fun for your whole family, or three or four of your closest friends, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler is the way to go. A whole lot of buyers just like the look of a Jeep, even if they don't get up to the mountains that often. There's plenty to love in the distinctive styling too, enhanced now by a remodeled and much improved cabin. No matter your preference, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has what you want.
