What's new for the 2020 Jeep Wrangler?
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler reveals some new safety measures: cruise control and forward collision warning. Although most vehicles offer this equipment nowadays, these additions are part of a bigger Wrangler makeover.
This iconic Jeep has long been known for its rugged capabilities, but has always been pretty bare bones on the tech and comfort front. This changed for the better when the fourth-generation Wrangler debuted for 2018, boasting a more comfortable cabin and increased performance capabilities.
Which 2020 Jeep Wrangler model is best for me?
If you're shopping for a Wrangler, you've already got adventure in your sights. As you shop the trim levels, ask yourself exactly how much adventure you're planning. Also consider the modern features you can't live without. This will help you narrow down your options.
There are two 2020 Jeep Wrangler body styles: the classic two-door and four-door Unlimited. The two-door comes in three trims: Sport, Sport S, and Rubicon. The Unlimited offers two extra trims - the Sahara and Moab, which slot between the Sport S and Rubicon.
To navigate well-worn trails and beaches, you'll be just fine in the Sport. The Wrangler Sport has everything you need for off-the-cuff adventure - including skid plates, tow hooks, and a full-size spare tire. As is Wrangler tradition, the Sport's doors are removable, its windshield folds down, and the roof - whether soft or hard - comes right off.
The Sport S is as adventurous as the base Wrangler, but this trim adds a layer of convenience to your daily driving. That means timesavers like keyless entry and power windows and locks. But that also means air conditioning, which, if you live outside of San Diego, you probably can't do without.
Like we mentioned, the Sahara is only available with four doors. But this trim adds some high-tech features that, in a previous life, Wrangler drivers could only dream about. For instance, the Sahara has a 7-inch touchscreen loaded with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone features. As you rough the Wrangler Sahara up the mountainside, you can actually make hands-free calls and access your maps app. The automatic climate control maintains a set temperature, keeping bad weather at bay. If you're off the grid, you can always use the 115-volt power outlet to charge any battery-operated camping gear.
The Moab Unlimited model adds to the Sahara's tech skills with a longer list of rugged gear. Specifically, rock rails and a steel front bumper are on your side as you slug up and down mountains. The Moab is also tall, dark, and handsome, with exclusive black wheels and black exterior trim. When you step off the trail and into the cabin, premium leather upholstery wraps you in luxury while a nine-speaker Alpine audio system entertains.
The top-of-the-line 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon takes off-road capabilities to the brink. In addition to exclusive gear - like special off-road tires - this model features a shorter 4.10 axle ratio to increase torque in rugged territory and enhance driver precision when the going gets really rough. As you scale boulders, the Rubicon's electronic front and rear lockable differentials offer even greater driver accuracy.
How does the 2020 Jeep Wrangler handle in snow? Does it tow?
To be blunt, there is no better off-road civilian vehicle than the Jeep Wrangler. You say you've got snowdrifts to conquer? No problem. Since every Wrangler comes standard with four-wheel drive, off-roading in snowy weather is a cinch. Back on the icy pavement, you'll want to keep the Wrangler in two-wheel-drive mode, but the all-terrain tires help you maintain precision and avoid fishtailing.
This rugged Jeep can tow max loads from 2,000 to 3,500 pounds. If your boat falls within this realm, then a properly equipped Wrangler can absolutely get it to the loading dock.
When is the Jeep Wrangler diesel coming out?
Later this very same model year! At least, that's the word on the street. If you hold your horses for just a few more months, the modern Wrangler's very first diesel engine - a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder - can be yours.
