2020 Jeep Compass
2020 Jeep Compass
The Jeep Compass is a great off-roader for the budget-conscious consumer. The Compass starts at just $21,295 but has the chops for all your off-roading adventures. For 2020, Jeep has juggled a few of the options between trims. But, basically, the Compass is the same great compact sport utility vehicle you already know. So in this guide, we'll focus on what makes the Compass great and why you might just find yourself parking this Jeep in your driveway.
Off-Roading Adventures
Let's be honest. You're probably looking at Jeeps because of their off-roading capabilities--as well you should. The 2020 Jeep Compass is one of the smaller, more affordable Jeeps on the market but when you want to escape the urban jungle, the Compass is happy to oblige. That's because this compact SUV boasts an Active Drive Low four-wheel-drive system, skid plates, tow hooks, off-road suspension, Selec-Terrain Management System, 17-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, and 8.5 inches of ground clearance. If you're looking for the best off-roading the Compass affords, get the Trailhawk trim. That being said, every Compass model with four-wheel drive has four traction control settings - Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud. The Trailhawk trim adds another setting: Rock.
Killer Interior
For such a low starting price, you might expect Jeep to cut plenty of corners when designing their interior. If you have, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find an upscale cabin awaits you. The Compass sports a simple, but refreshing design. The cabin features plenty of soft-touch surfaces. That simple layout stands out with large air vents, wide seats considering the available passenger space, and ergonomics that'll please those who appreciate comfort.
Standard tech features include two USB ports, Bluetooth, voice controls, six-speaker stereo, and 7-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For a little more, you can get a larger 8.4-inch touch screen, satellite radio, nine-speaker Beats premium sound system, and navigation system. Optional features of note include a larger Uconnect screen, navigation, and upgraded audio system.
Under the Hood
You can customize your Compass experience by choosing one of three engine options. For starters, there's the 180-horsepower 2.4-liter inline-4 delivering 171 pound-feet of torque. That may not sound like a lot of horsepower until you take stock of the compact nature of the Compass. So don't worry; that'll get you around just fine. But if you'd rather have power to write home about, get the 271-horsepower 3.2-liter V6 engine, putting out 239 pound-feet of torque. The best engine on the Compass is none other than the 270-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 dishing up 295 pound-feet of torque. The Compass can tow up to 4,500 pounds when properly equipped. In a vehicle this size, that's a pretty outstanding accomplishment.
If you want a good off-roader but don't have a ton to spend, the Jeep Compass is a good fit. With this compact SUV, you'll also receive an upscale interior and plenty of power to haul and tow wherever the trail may take you.
