The Jeep Cherokee is a small SUV known for its off-road capabilities. However, it still provides an excellent on-road experience. For 2020, Jeep discontinued the Sport trim, made the Latitude the base model, and added a new Latitude Plus trim. Jeep also added some new standard safety features to the Trailhawk and Limited models. Here are some more details about the 2020 Jeep Cherokee.

Trim Levels (Exterior)

You'll find the Cherokee in five different main trims. The base level is now the Latitude, which comes with 17-inch wheels and xenon headlights. The new Latitude Plus trim has the same exterior features but adds some interior upgrades. The Trailhawk is the off-road version and comes with an advanced all-wheel-drive system and wider 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. This trim has a higher ground clearance than other models and it comes with skid plates, tow hooks, and a locking rear differential. The high-end Limited trim has 18-inch alloy wheels, power-folding side mirrors, and it comes with a window de-icer, while the top-level Overland has unique 18-inch wheels, a different exterior trim, a sound-deadening windshield, and cornering lights

Engine (Power)

The base engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that generates 184 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. There is an optional 3.2-liter V-6 available that gets 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque, and both engines come with a nine-speed automatic transmission. You can choose from front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with all the trims except the Trailhawk, which comes standard with all-wheel drive.

Performance

The Jeep Cherokee performs whether you drive it down the highway, on mountain roads, or even off-road. The Selec-Terrain system on the four-wheel drive model makes it easy to change the driving mode to optimize performance for the conditions. The fuel economy in the Cherokee depends largely on the engine and and drive train, with the best performance going to the four-cylinder with front-wheel drive. This will see up to 21 miles per gallon in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Interior

The cabin has space for up to five passengers, and it features an upscale look and feel. The higher-end trims have heated and ventilated seats, and the second-row seats will adjust both forward and backward to maximize legroom. In the back, there are 24.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up. This SUV comes equipped with the latest technology, including a 5-inch touch screen in the base level Latitude, while the rest of the trims have a larger 8.4-inch touch screen. All models come with the Uconnect infotainment system. Starting with the Latitude Plus, you'll also get satellite radio and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Safety Features

All models come standard with a rearview camera and parking sensors. Bump up to the Trailhawk for a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert and parking sensors. You can also add the Technology Group to the three higher trims and get forward collision warning with mitigation, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and a radar-based cruise control that keeps you within a certain distance from the car in front of you.
