The Grand Caravan is a the versatile, affordable, no-nonsense alternative to the minivans that double as mobile homes.
Affordable as a Feature
Some people knock the Grand Caravan for its lack of features. But that's a feature, not a flaw. Taking out the tech and stripping this minivan to the essentials allows Dodge to set a lower price point. As a result, the 2020 Dodge Grand Caravan starts at just $26,250. That's about $4,000 cheaper than the cheapest Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna.
And in case you want some of those bells and whistles, you can get everything the Grand Caravan has to offer--dual power-sliding rear doors, power liftgate, power-adjustable driver's seat, leather upholstery with suede inserts, second-row Stow 'n Go seating--for just $31,500. That's right: only slightly more than the base Odyssey or Sienna. For about $1,000 more, you can add the Driver Convenience Group package for tri-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, second-row window shades, and overhead storage bins. That still feels like a steal.
Powerful V6 Engine
One thing Dodge did not skip on is the beating heart of the Dodge Caravan. The one and only available engine is a 283-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 delivering 260 pound-feet of torque. This engine is comparable to the engines of others in its class. You might find some with better acceleration, but this much power at this price point is a good value. What's nice is the fuel economy isn't bad either, getting 17 city miles and 25 highway miles per gallon.
Stow ?n Go Seating for People on the Go
One day Dodge designers had a dream. Tired of the lip, bump, or dip found in most minivans with the seats down (and don't even get us started on physically hauling seats out), Dodge set out to lay the fold-down rows flat. And they succeeded. Say hello to Stow ?n Go. This system hides the seats away so they lie flush with the floor. What you're left with is 140.3 cubic feet of unobstructed cargo space. You're right to notice that 140 is less cargo space than some of its rivals. But the convenience of Stow ?n Go seating goes a long way to making up for that small difference.
The base Grand Caravan SE offers third-row Stow ?n Go. Upgrade to the SE Plus to add second-row Stow ?n Go. That creates a carpet of unruffled storage space from the hands-free liftgate to the front row seats. If you're a bells-and-whistles kind of person, the Grand Caravan may not be right for you. But if you want an affordable vehicle that focuses on what's important, you may have found your next minivan.
