2018 Jeep Compass

There's a ton of things to love about the Jeep Compass. This compact sport utility vehicle has bold styling, off-roading chops, a killer price, quiet cabin, intuitive infotainment system, and plenty of cargo space. It's hard, in fact, to narrow down what to talk about in this article. We think with a test drive, you too will be impressed with the 2018 Jeep Compass.

Off-Roading on a Budget

First of all, we'd be remiss if we didn't talk about off-roading with a brand like Jeep. Like its big brothers, the 2018 Jeep Compass is familiar with the roads less traveled. And for this price, you just can't find an off-roader that does better. For starters, the Compass boasts two available four-wheel-drive systems. You can also get its four traction control settings: Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud.

Serious off-roading fans should consider the top-tier Compass Trailhawk trim, which adds on/off-road tires, crawling gear, hill descent control, Rock traction control setting, skid plates, two tow hooks, and special badging, along with a nine-speed automatic transmission and an upgraded infotainment system.

Great Value

Speaking of off-roading on a budget, let's look at what you can expect to pay in a Jeep Compass. Jeep offers the Compass in four trim levels, the base level being the Compass Sport. This affordable SUV starts at just $20,995 and comes with front-wheel drive (four-wheel drive available for $1,500 more), six-speed manual transmission, push-button start, cloth seats, and 60/40-split-folding rear seat. Its infotainment system is the Uconnect interface on a 5-inch touch screen, along with Bluetooth, two USB ports, six speakers, and rear view camera.

The Compass Latitude starts at $24,295 and comes with front- or four-wheel drive standard, plus an automatic transmission and proximity key. The Compass Limited is $27,595 and adds 8.4-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, and remote start. Finally, the Trailhawk trim at the end of the line and decked out with off-roading and performance goodies starts at $28,695.

Quiet Cabin on Blacktop

After the initial revving, the Jeep Compass settles down to a nice quiet thrum, thanks to recently upgraded soundproofing. Don't get us wrong, the Compass can still be pretty loud on rough terrain. The rougher, the louder. But on a nice stretch of highway or cruising the urban jungle, this Jeep is quiet as a purring tomcat. The Compass also nicely absorbs shocks in the road or trail, meaning you won't be clenching your teeth as you go over a pothole or dip in the trail.

Impressive Cargo Space

For its size, the 2018 Jeep Compass has prodigious cargo space. There's 27 cubic feet with the seats up and 60 cubes with them down. Only Kia can do a little better, adding 1 cubic foot on the Soul. So if your off-roading leads to weekend trips up in the mountains or down by the lake, the Jeep Compass can haul your gear for you.

We've gone on for a while, but without mentioning the Compass's attractive appearance, easy-to-use infotainment, and more. The best remedy is to get to a dealer and try one out today. Seeing is believing.
