So you're finally ready for a sports car. You've worked hard and waited your whole life for this moment. But what's it going to be? Ford Mustang? Chevy Camaro? Fiat Spider? There aren't many sports cars in the world but there are enough to make this decision a tough one. Have you considered the Dodge Challenger? This relative latecomer is full of surprises. For one, the Challenger is the only sports car today that offers all-wheel drive. In this preview guide, we show you what's new for the 2020 model year and why this Challenger is worth a close look.
What's New for 2020?
In 2020, there has been a great reshuffling of trims and features. The changes range from huge to minor, so we'll hit the highlights. First of all, even as we bid a fond farewell to two limited-edition Challengers-the SRT Demon and SRT 392-we say hello to the 797-horsepower SRT Hellcat Redeye model. This cat sure knows how to sprint because, as the Redeye unleashes 707 pound-feet of torque, the Redeye runs a quarter mile in 10.8 seconds and can attain speeds up to 203 mph. Not to worry if you can't afford the Hellcat Redeye's $70,000 price tag. Every Challenger is an absolute beast. And now many of them look even more beast-like, with a new dual snorkel hood and a 10-horsepower increase. On top of that, the R/T Scat Pack Challenger is now available in wide body for those who want to embrace the pony car look. Finally, all-wheel drive is now available on the base SXT trim.
Pulse-Pounding Acceleration
As you may have gleaned from the SRT Hellcat Redeye, the Challenger has droves of power. But that's not just the trim-toppers. There are no fewer than five engines available on the various trims of the Challenger. First up in the lineup is the base engine. This 3.6-liter V6 comes standard on the SXT and GT trims, but this engine is no slouch. How does 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque sound? For most people, that's more than enough but if you're in the market for something a little more, ahem, athletic, there's the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine. This titan of engineering is good for 375 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Grab hold of this V8 in the Challenger R/T. There's also an R/T Rat Pack with an even better engine: the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 the puts out 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque.
Room for Your Friends
This news might be a bit of a shock? Are you sitting down? The Challenger actually has room for you and three grownup friends. Rear-seat passengers will enjoy the leg room while you show them exactly how fast your new Challenger can go. Make friends. Influence people--and don't sacrifice the ability to put your pedal to the metal. Basically, have it all. The Challenger can do that for you.
Not to worry; all sports cars go faster than your local traffic laws allow. But if with all that acceleration you also want a roomy cabin and all-wheel drive, the Dodge Challenger should be on your wishlist.
